If Not love

He spoke of love,

She Listened, Believing.

She gave all to him,

He returned but a little.

She proclaimed her love, loudly.

He professed the same, sadly.

He had been “hurt” before.

She understood, as was expected.

He spoke of family.

She tried out baby names.

She said nothing, all the while.

He knew nothing, for even longer.

She, one day querried, “Do you love me?”

He, without hesitation replied, “Yes!”

He lied, without breaking his stare.

She knew, but decided not to care.

He, requested her hand, in marriage.

She, without hesitation replied, “Yes!”

She wanted a good man, if not love.

He just wanted a good woman.
